Synopsis
Troy and his son Joe are hiking in the rough and inhospitable mountains of Montana, seemingly on the run towards the Canadian border. As it turns out, Troy is in fact attempting to shield his son (who is transitioning) from the mother's bigotry. Joe's mother has filed a complaint, but the policewoman chasing after them shows less and less interest in the affair as she discovers the truth.
Rather than limiting herself to psychological justifications, the director has chosen, in this film, to approach Joe's identity by depicting masculinity in the Far West, and using a certain fascination for the cowboy lifestyle, to her advantage. She has succeeded in creating a magnificent western movie around a topic that doesn't immediately spring to mind when one thinks of the genre.
