In spring 1986, the Chernobyl explosion upturned the life of this village in Western Finland. That summer, a newcomer named Mimi enters the life of 15-year-old Mariia and shakes it to the core. Twenty years later, Mariia returns to visit her ailing mother, and memories resurface.
