Synopsis

The summer of 84 : Faced with mines being shut down due to Margaret Thatcher’s programme, the miners go on strike. A small group of gay and lesbian activists decide to raise funds to help the striking miners’ families. Considering the success of their endeavour, the activists decide to continue their quest in Wales, but their welcome there is anything but warm and gay-friendly. Slowly but surely, relations warm up and everyone realises that common ground can unite a group of dykes and faggots and a group of miners and their families. This anti (and aunty)-discriminatory film shows that sectarianism, be it against a sexual minority or workers in specific sector, is often an impasse, that this withdrawal is essentially reductive and a result of the fear of something different. A feel-good movie of the kind the English are so good at (like The Full Monty), Pride will keep you simmering between laughter and tears and will reveal the good in us all. Not to be missed !
