Viêt and Nam work - and occasionally make love - in the coal mines, when they are not roaming the surrounding forests, accompanied by Nam's mother and a veteran neighbour, in search of the remains of Nam's father who disappeared during the war. All the while, they await their journey into exile - Nam, who has no passport, has arranged with a smuggler to leave one day. After previously featuring in the festival with short films Les Attendants and Porcupine, Minh Quy Truong brings emotion to sensual, minimalist scenes, while exploring the traumas inherited from the Vietnam War in a second feature film full of gravity and originality.
